SSM Welcomes Industry Expert on Human Factors in Safety
SSM is pleased to be hosting Human Factors in Safety and Engineering, a special presentation by Dave Fennell, industry expert and Canadian Safety Professional of the Year.
The 2-day Human Factors in Safety and Engineering course:
- addresses these issues to make our workplaces safer
- leads safety professionals, engineers and managers through the Human Factors Spectrum
- provides tools, processes and approaches that will improve the interaction between people, facilities and
- management systems
- shows participants how to prevent incidents, assess incidents and address safety issues
- demonstrates how to use these factors to understand and prevent human error
Safety for the HR Professional
Safety Day is a new event being put on to address the various safety concerns that arise in the workplace. Understanding your roles and responsibilities when it comes to the physical and psychological safety of your employees is the first step in ensuring your workplace follows the provincial safety legislation. Topics covered in this workshop include: protecting employees from injury, limiting personal liability, maintaining a safety program, balancing human rights with health and safety responsibilities, substance abuse in the workplace, harassment and violence prevention and the role of the HR professional in policy development.
The Safety Day is presented by SAFE Work Manitoba, and Safety Services Manitoba’s Dave Erl will be presenting.

SSM Presents “Handling the Politics of Workplace Bullying” – an HRMAM Event
Safety Services Manitoba is very pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring an HRMAM event in February 2014.
“Handling the Politics of Workplace Bullying,” is a customized, non-traditional training event for HR professionals and managers. Attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to identify and resolve workplace bullying situations.
The session will be presented by Valerie Cade, who is considered one of North America’s top experts in workplace bullying. Originally from Winnipeg, she is now an international speaker and is author of the best selling book “Bully Free at Work: What You Can Do To Stop Workplace Bullying Now!” which has been distributed in over 100 countries world-wide.
CME Manufacturing Guarding Awareness Session – November 27, 2013
Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, in partnership with Safety Services Manitoba and Workplace Engineering Solutions, offered this Manufacturing Guarding Awareness Session geared towards Operations Managers, Plant Managers, Directors of Operations, HR Managers, and more. We had a great turnout – 51 people came to take part in the course.
Participants gained advanced knowledge of:
- CSA Standards as it relates to safeguarding of machinery
- Machine safeguarding process; hazard recognition, risk analysis and safeguarding controls
- Machine safeguarding assessments
There was great information presented about machine guarding, including how and where to start and detailed planning for next steps.
Manitoba Hydro Lunch and Learn Session – November 26, 2013
We had a great time hosting 13 Manitoba Hydro employees in our facility for a Lunch and Learn session. We did a tour of our facility, followed by an information session to inform our attendees how SSM can help them achieve their safety goals!
