• Reasonable Accommodation: What it Really Means

    Human rights law requires employers to reasonably accommodate the special needs of employees to the point of undue hardship. The presenter will review statutory requirements and case law so as to demonstrate what that means in practice. Participants will then have an opportunity to apply what they have learned.

    The goal is to help participants to operate lawfully, and so avoid needless (and expensive) human rights claims.

    Biography

    Jeff Palamar is a partner in the Winnipeg law firm Taylor McCaffrey LLP and practices primarily in the areas of labour relations, employment law and human rights, mostly representing employers. He is listed in National Post’s “Best Lawyers in Canada.”

    Jeff receives appointments and acts as an adjudicator under the Canada Labour Code and private collective agreements. He is also an arbitrator with the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada.

    Jeff has presented countless times at seminars put on by organizations such as the Law Society of Manitoba, the Manitoba Bar Association, the Canadian Association of Counsel for Employers, the Centre for Labour Management and various others. He is a past long-time instructor with Continuing Education at the University of Manitoba, and will be sharing teaching responsibility for Employment Law at the University of Manitoba Law School in January 2018.
