Ron Armstrong

  • Ron ArmstrongOccupational Safety Trainer and
    Professional Safety Consultant

Ron joined the SSM occupational safety and health team in 2012, and since then he has taught nearly 600 students in 29 different companies. At SSM, Ron feels like he’s part of a family as everyone works toward the common goal of safety for the community.

When a serious workplace injury made him realize how an incident truly can change your life, Ron decided to make it his mission to protect others from going through the same experience.

Ron started his journey in the field by re-training as an Industrial Education teacher. He attained two University degrees and a College program and started working in the public school system. After having a discussion with David Erl, SSM’s Director of Occupational Health and Safety, he felt empowered to make a contribution to the safety culture in Manitoba as a program facilitator.

Currently, Ron is working towards a number of designations – Certified Health Ergonomic Safety Specialist (CHESS); Health and Safety Professional (HSP); Construction Safety Officer (CSO) and Emergency Medical Respondent (EMR).

Ron’s advice to new and young workers is that joining a workplace safety committee allows you to learn and identify the actual hazards that may be present in your specific workplace. To experienced workers, Ron advises not to become complacent and let your guard down. Commitment to lifelong learning – especially in the field of safety and health – can make a huge difference at the end of the day.
